In Old Slankamen there is one of the rare springs of salty water on the territory of Vojvodina, Slanača, after which maybe this place got its name. It is probable that this water was used even by Romans during the times when Acumincuma existed, and it is most definite that the water from this sanatorium was used by Turks because there were found the remains of a Turkish bathroom, hamam, dating from 1566. In 1900 this salty water was technically characterized as a healing one, and a stock company “Slanjača” was established, which then in 1906 built the bathroom and two hotels. Now on this location there is a modern rehabilitation center with the new facilities called The Special Hospital Dr Borivoje Gnjatić with the capacity of 350 beds. The mineral water is considered to be salt-iodine water of chloride-sodium type, of total mineralization 6,850 g/l. The water is radioactive.
